That’s what I would like to talk to you about this month. No body REALLY likes having to start over. We would all like for whatever we are doing to go good and be the way we intended from the start but sometimes it doesn’t work out that way. On the other hand, sometimes it is a good thing to GET to start over.
Just recently, I got to be at a wedding of a young lady I’ve known all of her life. Her first marriage was hard. Her husband was abusive and unfaithful for their entire marriage that, understandably, was short lived. She was at rock bottom in her self esteem and self confidence. She even says she felt hopeless at one point. The groom is a veteran with tours in the middle east. Wounded, he came home, and married his fiancé only to find out just a short time later that she had cancer and in a matter of months, she was gone. He, also, felt hopeless. PTSD was only the beginning of his struggle back to a place where he felt like “living” again. Then, he and the young woman I spoke of earlier met. Romans 8:28 says that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to his purpose. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us God has a plan and purpose for each of us that includes hope and a future.
When God told Abraham to go to a land He prepared for Him, Abraham, a wealthy and established land owner, had to pick up everything and all of his tribe of people and leave where he was to completely start over. When Job went through the terrible trials Satan put him through, he trusted God, survived it all and was able to start over, gaining 10 times what he had had before. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature. Everything old is put away and everything is made new!” That is the ultimate “do over” or better yet, a “start over”!
When the young couple I told you about earlier thought there was no hope and no future, they discovered that trusting God proves that the complete opposite was true! Not only was there a hope and a future, they knew the way to it! It was ONLY through Jesus Christ and their trust in Him. Trusting Him and following Him leads to a new beginning. A complete “start over”. Praise God for extra chances. For hope…and a future.
