Free - Free - Free - Free - Free - Free - Free - Free Austin, Texas: Lady Bird Lake at Festival Beach in downtown Austin will be the hottest fishing spot in Central Texas on National Hunting and Fishing Day Sept. 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Kids will be caught up in fishing this favorite lake at the annual Ultimate Kids Fishing Event. Lake Travis, Texas was home to the popular event the last two years but this year Country Line Magazine, KVET 98.1 and other great sponsors will be moving the whole event to this kid friendly park. This move makes for easier access; increased room for the overwhelming crowds of young anglers and inner-city youth will find it easier to participate. Texas Parks and Wildlife and City of Austin Parks Department will provide support as well as professional, tournament and weekend anglers from across the area. “This is going to be the biggest and best youth fishing event in the state. It always was a big event but bringing it here to Lady Bird Lake just opens the doors all the way,” explains Sandra Greaney, owner of Country Line Magazine. “Our love for kids and the outdoors makes this a job from the heart, everyone loves it.” Local Texas Outdoor Zone Team tournament angler Brian Booker said, “The fishing on Lady Bird Lake is in some ways a well kept secret. The largemouth bass are huge in this lake, there are tons of perch, catfish and carp.” The fishing is free for all kids under 17. There will be some fishing gear for the first arrivals, but parents are encouraged to shop the local retailers for freshwater gear. Prizes, games, instruction and more will all be part of this awesome event celebrating National Hunting and Fishing Day. The program supporting the Kids Outdoor Zone Youth Adventure Ministries, KOZ will have information on all types of outdoor hunting and fishing adventures for kids in Texas. They will also have information on their monthly meeting and events. Sandra Greaney can be reached at 512-292-1113. Kids Outdoor Zone is a 501-C3 non-profit. www.kidsoutdoorzone.com
