Closure that you can expect in Austin over the next couple of weeks

CITY OF AUSTIN CLOSURES FOR CHRISTMAS/NEW YEAR HOLIDAYS
Normal business hours will resume Tuesday, Jan. 2.

City Offices

City of Austin administrative offices and other municipal facilities will be closed Monday, Dec. 25, and Tuesday, Dec. 26, in observance of the Christmas holiday. Normal business hours will resume Wednesday, Dec. 27. The following week, City offices and facilities will be closed Monday, Jan. 1 2018, for the New Year’s holiday. Normal business hours will resume Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Trash and Recycling

Christmas: Austin Resource Recovery curbside collections will not occur on Monday, Dec. 25. All trash, recycling, and yard trimmings/compost collection will “slide” forward one day with collections occurring Tuesday, Dec. 26 through Saturday, Dec. 30. The Recycle & Reuse Drop-off Center will be closed on Monday, Dec. 25. View the full holiday schedule at austintexas.gov/department/residential-holiday-collection-schedules.

Libraries

All Austin Public Library branches will close at 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 23 and will remain closed Sunday, Dec. 24 through Tuesday, Dec. 26 for Christmas. Normal hours will resume Wednesday, Dec. 27. Additionally, libraries will be closed on Monday, Jan. 1 2018.

Parks and Recreation

All recreation centers, senior centers, museums and cultural arts centers will be closed on Monday, Dec. 25 and Tuesday, Dec. 26, and on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018. Aquatic facilities, except Barton Springs Pool, will be closed on Sunday, Dec. 24 and Monday, Dec. 25, and on Monday, Jan. 1. Barton Springs Pool will remain open, but will not have lifeguards on duty, and the public may play or swim for free at their own risk. All nature center and botanical gardens will be closed Monday, Dec. 25 and Monday, Jan. 1. City golf courses will remain open for public use but will not be staffed on Monday, Dec. 25.

New Year Celebration

The Austin’s New Year celebration will take place Sunday Dec. 31 on Vic Mathias Shores. The free festival of music, art, food and family friendly fun starts at 3 p.m. and ends with a fireworks finale at 10 p.m. Some roadways in the area will be impacted by the event. Transport

The winter holiday season is a time when intoxicated driving incidents in Texas increase. The City of Austin would like to remind residents and visitors to plan a safe ride home before going out for holiday celebrations. There are several options available, including free rides on Capital Metro services after 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.
