Home Ranch Features a “Hands on Horse Week” from September 11-16
Horse lovers who wish to gain a greater understanding of these majestic animals can participate in a “Hands on Horse Week” from September 11-16 at The Home Ranch, a 14-room Relais & Chateaux affiliated ranch.  Overseeing the five-day course is horseman and lifelong rancher Curt Pate, who also served as a technical advisor and appeared in the 1998 Robert Redford film “The Horse Whisperer”.
Under the direction of Pate and Home Ranch Operations Manager Michael Moon, participants will learn horsemanship skills while working with yearling, young and mature horses.  Haltering a horse, lead rope training, saddling a horse, grooming and obstacle course training will be taught.  Guests will also learn how horses think, a vital skill for gaining their trust and creating a more pleasurable riding experience.  Training is geared for both novice and experienced riders with ample time for riding through the Aspen lined trails and grassy plains.
“By week’s end, guests will have a much higher comfort level with horses,” said Pate. “Helping guests expand their knowledge and skill set will allow them to relish the simple pleasure and enjoyment that comes from building a relationship with an animal.”
Many believe the ability to read a horse leads to better people skills.  While Pate’s program is geared toward horsemanship skills and understanding the horse, he does believe that when people learn how to work with a horse they learn how to work with people.  “The say you can’t be a jerk in the barn without being a jerk in the house,” says Pate.
Other activities available to guests throughout the “Hands on Horse Week” include hiking, fly fishing and mountain biking.  Mealtime is an event at The Home Ranch with Executive Chef John Gillespie preparing elaborate lunchtime buffets and gourmet evening meals including a cookout at The Home Ranch’s Farm with live entertainment.
Prices at the all-inclusive luxury guest ranch start at $4975 per room (based on two guests, with accommodations also available for up to six) for the five-night stay offered September 11-16. Roundtrip transportation from Yampa Valley Regional Airport (HDN) is included in the pricing.  For reservations or more information visit www.HomeRanch.com or call 970.879.1780.
