RADNEY FOSTER JOINS RALLY AT THE BORDER IN DEL RIO, TX
March 25th event is a non partisan show of unity between border cities
Residents of Del Rio, TX and Ciudad Acuña, Mexico will participate in a unity rally on March 25, joining hands across the border on the International bridge. Del Rio mayor Robert Garza and Ciudad Acuña mayor Hector Arocha will form the first link in a hand to hand chain stretching back into both cities.
Singer/songwriter Radney Foster will return to his hometown for the event. “It doesn’t matter your politics,” says Foster. “If you live on the border, you understand how our two communities are intrinsically linked.”
Foster is the fourth generation of his family to grow up on the border. “My house was a mile from Mexico. I grew up going to Acuña to get groceries, and many friends and families worked and shopped on both sides. It’s a unique community.”
Sponsored by the We Are One Foundation, the rally is in conjunction with events in other border cities, including Laredo and San Diego. “This non-partisan rally is to promote the spirit of friendship and unity that exists between our two communities,” says organizer Jorge Urby. “We are friends, neighbors, brothers and sisters connected by a common thread.”
The event begins at 3pm and will feature addresses by both mayors and other dignitaries and a performance by Foster, followed by receptions in each city.
